We promote a healthy lifestyle at Wild Rose
A House League program is organized for students in Grades 1-6. This program is an adjunct to regular physical education and is offered as an optional lunch hour activity.
Several other sporting events are planned during the year. In the fall, the school holds a Terry Fox Run (contributions go to Cancer Research) and students are entered in the District Cross Country Competition.
During the winter, grade 4, 5, & 6 students participate in Ski /Snow Day for two afternoons of skiing (downhill, cross country/snowboarding) and snowshoeing at Snow Valley. The Running Club prepares students for the Journal Games in February. In the spring a Track Club and Running Club are offered and prepare students for the Klondike Relays and the District Track Meet.
Our "Wolf Wall" is a challenging addition to the school. This climbing wall is made available as part of our club programs and Phys Ed. classes.
Students in Grades 2 to 4 have the opportunity of becoming “Environmental Activists” for the school. This group is in charge of recycling at the school, conducting energy audits, monitoring waste in the lunchrooms and communicating their discoveries and observations to the rest of the school population. This group also sponsors the Newspaper Recycling bin for use by all community members.
Outdoor Education
Our grade 5 and 6 students enjoy a multi-day trip over the course of the year, providing opportunities to develop group living skills, be challenged and set goals for themselves in powerful natural settings. Each trip also highlights aspects of the social studies and physical education curriculum.
Cross-Country Skiing
Our inventory of cross-country gear opens the playground and natural trails to our students. We welcome parent and community involvement in sharpening the skills of skiers.
Triathlon
Every year we look forward to participating in our annual cross-aged, team triathlon which takes place in June.
